Alkagesta has been awarded the EcoVadis Committed Badge, recognising the company's commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices across its global trading operations. The announcement was made from Malta in September 2026.

What the EcoVadis assessment measures

EcoVadis is one of the world's most widely used providers of business sustainability ratings. Its evidence-based assessment evaluates companies across four pillars: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Rather than relying on self-declared claims, the methodology reviews a company's policies, actions and reporting against internationally recognised frameworks such as the UN Global Compact principles and ISO 26000 guidance.

For commodity traders, these ratings are increasingly important. Large buyers, banks and counterparties use supplier sustainability scores in procurement and due-diligence decisions, particularly as European rules such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive raise expectations on value-chain transparency. Achieving the Committed Badge reflects Alkagesta's performance across the EcoVadis criteria and gives the company a structured framework for continued improvement.

Part of a broader ESG programme

The recognition sits alongside Alkagesta's wider ESG commitments, set out in its 2025 ESG report. These include ISCC and CORSIA certification for sustainable aviation fuel trading — relevant as airlines prepare for blending mandates discussed at forums such as the IATA Aviation Energy Forum.

The company has also added EU ETS allowances to its carbon markets trading offer, a move we covered in our report on Alkagesta's entry into EU ETS trading. In addition, it continues to invest in environmental research, including the Clean Caspian startup, which has identified formulants for oil-spill remediation — see our earlier coverage of the Clean Caspian initiative.

The badge follows a strong commercial year for the group, which reported record first-half 2026 results.

CEO comment

Orkhan Rustamov, CEO of Alkagesta, said: "Receiving the EcoVadis Committed Badge reflects the work being done across Alkagesta to embed responsible business practices into how we operate — not as a separate agenda, but as part of how we run the business day to day. As a company trading commodities that sit at the heart of the global economy, we take seriously our responsibility to operate with integrity and transparency. We see this as a foundation to build on, and we will continue to raise our standards across the areas EcoVadis measures."
